About the course

The course "Socio-environmental impacts of corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean", approved and financed by AUSJAL, is part of the strategic priorities of the network of Ignatian universities, oriented towards social transformation and integral ecology. In this framework, the proposal seeks to strengthen identity and collaboration between institutions, promoting joint processes of training, research and internationalization in a regional and global context marked by increasingly complex socio-environmental challenges.

Developed in virtual mode through Microsoft Teams, the course is initially aimed at leaders of Social Centers linked to the CPAL, in continuity with previous collaborative research. However, it is also open to researchers, students of Jesuit universities and all those interested in debates on the environment, corruption, sustainable development and defense of territories. It is an accessible and plural training space, aimed at the construction of critical knowledge and the strengthening of cooperation networks.

In a context in which corruption acts as a structural phenomenon that aggravates environmental, climatic and social damage, the course proposes to analyze its impacts from an interdisciplinary perspective. Based on recent research and relevant data—such as the increase in forced migration due to extreme weather events, violence against socio-environmental defenders, and economic losses derived from illegal practices—the proposal seeks to offer analytical and practical tools to understand and address this problem. In this way, the course is consolidated as an international space for collective exchange and learning, committed to the care of the Common Home and the construction of concrete alternatives to socio-environmental corruption.
